I do not know what a transcript is or my institution does not issue such a document. What can I submit instead?

Your transcript of records details the courses and grades of your undergraduate (BSc) and graduate (MSc) education. If your university does not issue transcripts, you need to submit another form of record such as a Studienbuch (student kept records of your study) and certificates of major exams you have passed (Vordiplom, Physikum, Diplomprüfung, Staatsexamen, module grades).

How do I find a supervisor for a PhD-project who shares my research interests?

Finding a research project supervisor is a research project in itself! Have a careful look at the faculty list on our web-site. Research areas are indicated there. Please refrain from sending detailed research proposals and CVs directly to potential supervisor as you risk being treated as spam if you pursue this strategy. Instead study the recent publications of the members of faculty and their current research and match their fields of research and the methods they apply with your own interests. How do your own skills and research interests fit into this particular lab? Acquiring some solid background knowledge on their topical work and methods and being able to answer how you might fit into current projects makes getting in touch with faculty members much more promising. Otherwise your requests might be at risk of being skipped.
